TIP OF THE DAY. FIRE

THE UNCONVENTIONAL FIRE

One of the most rudimentary survival skills people learn is fire starting.  There are hundreds of ways to start a fire, bow, flint, battery and steelwool, matches, bic lighter etc etc.  But what about that initial spark grabber?  Kindling.  There are many types that can be found in nature. Some require a little effort to make, or even find.  But there may be something that is readily available in your own pack (ok, I don't mean using your shorts to get that raging enferno going).  I have found that there are several foods that make great 'kindling' for that fire in the woods.  Here are a few, you may want to try.

One:  Potato Chips.  As much as I hate to lose a chip, they burn well.

Two: Nuts.   Got a few nuts in your GORP?  Fire one up.

Three:  Fritos.  Nothing like a Frito Scoop to make a nice candle.

GIVE IT A TRY.
